This Privacy Policy describes how ModelX ("ModelX," "we," "us," and "our") collects, uses, stores, shares, and otherwise processes information when you access or use our websites, applications, AI tools, lesson-generation features, assignment features, account tools, and related services (collectively, the "Service").

By using the Service, you understand that we may collect, use, disclose, store, transfer, and otherwise process information as described in this Privacy Policy, subject to applicable law.

1. Information We Collect

We may collect the following categories of information:

  • Account and identity information. When you sign up, sign in, or manage your account through our authentication and identity providers, we may receive your name, email address, user ID, profile image/avatar, authentication/session information, and other profile, security, or account-related information made available to us.
  • Content you submit. We collect the prompts, chat messages, lesson requests, assignment names, assignment content, instructions, edits, and other information or content you submit through the Service.
  • AI-generated content and metadata. We may store model outputs, reasoning text, generated lesson pages, titles, artifact versions, edit history, and related metadata such as timestamps and associated account or chat identifiers.
  • Assignment, assessment, and educational records. We may collect and store assignment ownership data, assignee/user identifiers, names, attempt counts, grades, percentages, pass/fail status, timestamps, and related records. Submitted assignment snapshots may include rendered page state at the time of submission, including answers, typed inputs, selected options, and other interaction state.
  • Audio request data. If you use text-to-speech or similar media features, we may process the text you choose to convert, request metadata, and returned audio data.
  • Technical, device, and usage information. We and our providers may collect IP address, browser type, device information, operating system, timestamps, request metadata, referrer information, application logs, error logs, and similar technical information.
  • Cookies and browser storage data. We and our providers may use cookies, tokens, session data, and browser storage to authenticate users, maintain sessions, remember settings, keep the Service functioning, and protect the Service. The current implementation also uses browser session storage for in-progress artifact editing state and a cookie to remember sidebar state.
  • Support, security, and compliance information. If you contact us, report a problem, or if we investigate misuse, fraud, abuse, or a security issue, we may collect the information you provide and other information relevant to the issue.

2. How We Use Information

We may use collected information for any lawful business purpose, including to:

  • provide, host, operate, maintain, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the Service;
  • create, authenticate, administer, and manage accounts, sessions, and identity flows;
  • store, display, organize, and manage chats, assignments, generated artifacts, submissions, grades, and related records;
  • generate, edit, rank, summarize, analyze, and otherwise process prompts, lesson content, outputs, and other submitted content using AI tools and related systems;
  • provide text-to-speech and similar media features;
  • personalize the Service, preserve product state, and remember settings;
  • monitor usage, debug issues, prevent abuse, enforce our terms and policies, and protect our users, systems, and business;
  • test, improve, evaluate, train, tune, and develop the Service, AI-enabled features, internal tools, and related products or services, unless we expressly agree otherwise in writing;
  • create aggregated, anonymized, pseudonymized, or deidentified information and use that information for any lawful purpose; and
  • comply with law, legal process, internal governance, audits, and business operations.

3. AI, Model, and Audio Processing

The Service includes AI and audio features that rely on third-party providers.

  • Authentication and account management. We use WorkOS and related identity/session tooling for sign-in, callback handling, profile management, session management, and security features.
  • AI processing. Chat generation, title generation, and artifact editing features send prompts, conversation history, lesson content, instructions, and related data to OpenRouter and, depending on the model selected or made available, the underlying model provider(s).
  • Model providers may vary. Depending on the model or route used, those providers may include OpenRouter and other AI vendors such as NVIDIA, Z.ai, OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or other providers we enable over time.
  • Audio processing. Text-to-speech requests send selected text to ElevenLabs to generate audio.
  • Provider-side processing. These providers may process submitted data under their own terms, privacy notices, retention practices, safety systems, and legal obligations. Some model endpoints, especially free or promotional endpoints, may use submitted content for provider-side training, evaluation, abuse monitoring, or service improvement.

If you do not want your content processed by third-party AI or audio providers, do not submit that content through those features.

4. How We Share Information

We may share information in the following circumstances:

  • Service providers and vendors. We may share information with vendors and providers that help us provide the Service, including identity providers, AI/model providers, audio providers, database and hosting providers, infrastructure providers, security providers, and professional advisors.
  • Other users of the Service. If you create, assign, or share lessons or assignments, recipients with access may view that content. If you complete an assignment, the assignment owner or teacher may view your name, user identifier, attempts, scores, timestamps, submitted snapshots, and related assignment records.
  • Affiliates and business transfers. We may share information with current or future affiliates, parents, subsidiaries, or successors, and in connection with any merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, sale of assets, bankruptcy, or similar transaction.
  • Legal, safety, and enforcement reasons. We may disclose information if we believe doing so is necessary or appropriate to comply with law, legal process, governmental request, contractual obligation, or to protect the rights, property, safety, users, systems, or business interests of ModelX or others.
  • With your direction or consent. We may share information when you ask us to do so, direct us to do so, or otherwise consent.

We may also share aggregated, anonymized, pseudonymized, or deidentified information for any lawful purpose.

5. Cookies, Browser Storage, and Similar Technologies

We and our providers may use cookies, tokens, browser storage, and similar technologies to:

  • keep you signed in and maintain authentication/session state;
  • remember product settings and preferences;
  • support security and fraud-prevention measures;
  • maintain temporary in-browser state such as draft edits, generated audio playback state, and interface preferences; and
  • operate, improve, and protect the Service.

If you block or clear cookies or browser storage, some parts of the Service may not function properly.

6. Data Retention

We may retain personal information and submitted content for as long as we determine is necessary or useful for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including to provide the Service, maintain records, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, comply with law, preserve backups, support security, and operate our business.

Even if you delete certain content or stop using the Service, we may continue to retain copies in backups, logs, archives, cached systems, or internal records for a period of time, and we may retain aggregated or deidentified information indefinitely.

7. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures that we believe are appropriate for the nature of the information we process. However, no method of transmission, storage, or security control is completely secure, and we do not guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Choices and Rights

Depending on the Service features available to you and the law that applies, you may be able to:

  • manage profile, session, and security settings through your account tools;
  • delete certain chats, assignments, or other content through in-product functionality where available;
  • choose not to submit prompts, lessons, assignment data, or other content;
  • choose not to use AI or text-to-speech features; and
  • request access to, correction of, deletion of, or restriction regarding certain personal information, where applicable law provides those rights.

We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, and we may deny or limit requests where permitted by law.

9. Educational Use and Children

The Service may be used in educational contexts, including by teachers, students, schools, or other organizations. If you use the Service in connection with students, minors, or regulated educational information, you are responsible for ensuring that you have all rights, notices, consents, permissions, and legal authority required for that use.

Except as permitted by applicable law, the Service is not intended for direct use by children under 13 without appropriate authorization from a parent, guardian, school, or other authorized party. If we learn that we collected personal information from a child in a manner not permitted by law, we may delete that information.

10. International Transfers

We and our providers may process and store information in the United States and other jurisdictions where we or our providers operate. Those jurisdictions may have data protection laws that differ from the laws where you live. By using the Service, you understand that your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in those jurisdictions, subject to applicable law.

11. Sensitive Information and High-Risk Data

Unless we expressly agree otherwise in writing, do not submit highly sensitive, confidential, or regulated data through the Service, especially through AI or text-to-speech features. This includes, for example, payment card data, government-issued identification numbers, highly sensitive health information, secrets, or data subject to special legal restrictions.

If you choose to submit such information anyway, you do so at your own direction and risk, and you authorize us and our providers to process that information as described in this Privacy Policy.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will become effective when posted, unless a different effective date is stated. Your continued use of the Service after an update becomes effective means the updated Privacy Policy will apply to your use of the Service and your information, subject to applicable law.
